In
the old world, when the first Europeans braved the trek out
West, the tribes along the way told tales of the strange "Square
People"; Everything they did was square from their houses,
wagons, tables, etc. This was an odd way of living to a people
whose lives revolved around the earth's cycles. To them life was
a circle. Everything has a start and an end and yet continues.
They built their lives under this faith and in turn made their
homes in a circle and even their camps. In addition great
medicine wheels were structured around the great cycles of life.
This arrow symbolized this great medicine and belief that life
is a circle and if properly balanced will start and end and yet
somehow continue over and over again.

You have noticed that
everything an Indian does is in a circle, and that is because
the Power of the World always works in circles, and everything
tries to be round..... The Sky is round, and I have heard that
the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The
wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nest in
circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours....
Even the seasons form a
great circle in their changing, and always come back again to
where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to
old age, and so it is in everything where power moves. |
