Tools - Flakers: These
tools are made from delrin, a type of plastic. Each medium or large handle is grooved
to add to the grip and prevent slippage. Handles without grooves are
also available upon request. The reason delrin is preferred over wood
is due to its durability. Wood handles are often quick to wear down as
the stone chips away at it and/or the screw will no longer take a set.
However, if requested, we will make a wood handle. With standard use,
each tool should last 6 months to a year before the copper bits needs
replacing.
All tools comes with an extra bit. Handle size is about 4-5 inches and the copper bits are 1 1/2 -2
inches.
Copper Sizes: Large (6/16''), Medium (4/16''), Small (3/16''), Nail
(2/16'').
Copper bits should be kept smooth (or close to) with a rasp as any
burs, or rough edges, can cause the flake to break prematurely or go
off in another direction.
Horse shoe nails are soft and should be used with care, in other words
"proper preparation is needed". They can also be filed down as they
wear.
Note: For beginners, who do not have any tools yet, it is
recommended that you purchase at least two sizes and a notcher.
Wrenches can be purchased
from here or most hardware stores. |
